2012 Conference Presentation
Abstract
The presentation will discuss the main features of the Italian “care regime” and the LTC policy arena, clarifying what the opportunities and constraints for LTC national and sub-national reforms have been.
The central argument of is that a substantial inertia (in the context of huge societal transformations) characterizes this policy arena and, as a result, the LTC field has undergone only an “incremental institutional change” due to the existence and success of a modest but universal dependency cash transfer since the eighties and thanks to the cooptation of migrant carers by Italian families.
